5 Life-Changing Habits to Create a Happier Home

Hi friends! Today, I’m sharing five simple Habits For Happiness that have transformed my life over the past year.

They’re quick, easy, and have brought more joy and meaning to each day than I ever imagined. Let’s dive in, and I hope these inspire you to create a happier, more intentional life too.

As an interior and product designer for the past 15 years, my passion has been helping people create homes that inspire them.

I believe everyone deserves to love where they live, but it’s not just about the spaces we design—it’s also about the habits we form within them. Our daily routines have a huge impact on happiness and well-being.

1. Start Each Day with Gratitude, Intention, and the Daily Big 3

One of the most impactful habits I’ve developed is starting each morning with a moment of gratitude, setting intentions, and listing my “Daily Big 3.”

These three goals can be anything meaningful—whether it’s a work achievement, a healthy living practice like taking a walk, or a personal joy like cooking or reading a good book.

There are no rules for the Daily Big 3. The idea is to focus on what matters most to you. Accomplishing these priorities every day not only feels productive but also brings a sense of fulfillment and joy.

Plus, it helps cut through the clutter of endless to-do lists and gets you focused on what truly matters.

2. Prioritize Mental and Physical Health

This habit has been a game-changer for me. For years, I prioritized everyone else’s needs over my own, leaving me overworked and drained. But once my husband and I became empty nesters, I realized I was neglecting my well-being.

Now, I take small steps every day to care for my body and mind—whether it’s eating more whole foods, working out three times a week, or carving out time for things I enjoy, like family dinners or gardening. It’s not about perfection; it’s about creating a life that feels balanced, joyful, and authentic.

3. Spend Time Outside Every Day

Spending time in nature has become non-negotiable for me. Even just a short walk, a morning coffee on the porch, or a few minutes in the garden makes a world of difference in my mood.

Connecting with nature helps me feel grounded, attuned to the changing seasons, and energized. I challenge you to spend even a few minutes outside daily—you’ll be amazed by how it lifts your spirits and improves your day.

4. Celebrate Small Wins and Little Luxuries

Life moves fast, and it’s easy to overlook small achievements and moments of joy. But those little victories and pleasures are where the magic of life truly lies.

I’ve made it a habit to celebrate the small things—whether it’s finishing a project, savoring a cup of tea, or enjoying a relaxing evening with my family. Recognizing these moments brings so much joy, even during hectic weeks.

5. Give Yourself Permission to Focus on Your Dreams and Desires

One of the most impactful changes I’ve made is giving myself permission to focus on me. It’s easy to get caught up in always meeting the needs of others, especially after years of raising a family. But I’ve realized that taking time for yourself isn’t selfish—it’s life-giving.

Whether it’s pursuing a hobby, taking a break, or dreaming about the future, carving out time for your needs and desires will bring more meaning and happiness to your life—and that benefits everyone around you.
