Today, I’m excited to share my favorite top 10 tips for enhancing your home’s curb appeal, regardless of its size. This blog post follows up on a video we did a few weeks ago on charming curb appeal.
Many community members requested that we focus on smaller homes, so that’s our topic today. I know you’ll find these tips helpful, so be sure to subscribe, as we release new design content every week.
Enhancing your pathways can make a significant difference. Whether it’s the path from your driveway to your front door or a side door to the front, consider making it both beautiful and functional.
Use materials like pea gravel, pavers, brick, or rock to create welcoming and easy-to-navigate paths.
A fresh coat of paint can transform your home’s exterior. This doesn’t necessarily mean repainting the entire house.
Simply updating the trim, front door, or shutters can give your home a refreshed look and enhance its curb appeal.
A charming entryway sets the tone for your home. Add a beautiful wreath (or two if you have double doors), a welcoming doormat, and some potted plants to make your entrance inviting for guests and yourself.
Window boxes can add a lot of charm and character to your home. They’re perfect for those who enjoy gardening and want to bring some greenery and flowers to the front of their house.
I’m excited to add window boxes to our cottage renovation later this year.
Incorporate vertical elements like trellises, arbors, or obelisks to add architectural detail and a place for vines to grow.
A trellis can soften a brick or siding expanse, while an arbor over a window, garage, or as a freestanding structure adds elegance.
An obelisk provides structure and detail to garden beds.
Layering your plantings adds texture, color, and seasonal interest to your flower beds. Include evergreens for year-round greenery and perennials for recurring color and texture.
This approach gives your garden a rich, charming look, similar to the herbaceous borders found in English gardens.
Incorporate boxwoods or topiaries in your landscape or in pots flanking your front door. These elements add structure, greenery, and a touch of whimsy, making your home’s exterior more inviting.
Add a short picket fence, entry gate, or an arbor to the perimeter of your front yard. These features welcome guests and add charming character, making your home feel more inviting.
Edging your flower beds with stone or brick elevates the look and ties the materials of your home’s exterior into your garden. This simple weekend DIY project can make a significant impact on your home’s curb appeal.
Create a seating area in the front of your home, whether it’s on your porch, in a garden space, or on your lawn.
A comfortable spot to sit and enjoy your surroundings can enhance the charm and usability of your outdoor space.
There you have it, my 10 tips for enhancing your home’s curb appeal, no matter its size. I hope you found these tips helpful. Please share in the comments which tip you’re excited to try or any other ideas you have for boosting curb appeal.
