Let’s face it, completely redecorating our homes every time we feel inspired just isn’t practical. A full renovation or redecoration can be an expensive, overwhelming process. But fear not! In today’s post, I’m sharing eight easy and affordable DIY ways to change the look and feel of your space in a snap.

1. Upgrade Your Throw Pillows

Throw pillows can instantly take a room from bland and boring to bright and cheerful. They’re my absolute favorite way to introduce color and pattern into a room.

You can mix and match patterns, color combinations, and textures for a completely personalized look. And because throw pillows are affordable and easy to change, you can switch them out seasonally to reflect the mood and colors you want to embrace each season.

2. Add Wallpaper or a Mural

Adding wallpaper or a beautiful wall mural can set the tone for an entire room and be the jumping-off point for a room’s color palette and decor.

I love an entire room bathed in sumptuous wallpaper, but if that’s outside of your DIY scope, you can add a beautiful wall mural. It’s a fairly easy and affordable DIY project and can completely transform a room in an instant.

3. Upgrade Your Lighting Fixtures

Upgrading your lighting fixtures can make a statement in your home. Layer your lighting levels: ceiling (recessed, chandeliers, pendants, and flush mounts), mid-level (sconces, picture lights, recessed lighting in bookshelves or cabinets), and low-level (table lamps, floor lamps, recessed pucks or tracks in flooring, toe kicks, baseboards, or ground level elements).

Using all three levels creates mood and atmosphere in your home. Decorative light fixtures inject a room with personality and interest, radiating welcoming warmth and setting the tone like nothing else.

4. Upgrade Your Cabinetry Hardware

Changing out hardware is an easy and affordable way to bring new life to older cabinets and make a space feel fresh and current in an instant.

Measure the spread of your existing holes for your drawer pulls and purchase new upgraded hardware with the same spread to avoid filling in holes and painting leftover spots.

5. Refresh Your Bedding

Beautiful, sumptuous bed linens are essential to feeling rejuvenated and rested every morning. Invest in luxuriously soft sheets, a beautiful coverlet, duvet, and pillows to create a bed that beckons you every night.
